4.0 not working on AEM 6.5.22 due to unresolvable imports on `java.sql`

When trying to install the latest version of accesscontroltool on a clean AEM 6.5 with SP22 (and will be the same for SP24), the bundle can't start due to a dependency on java.sql, in system console following error can be seen: java.sql -- Cannot be resolved and overwritten by Boot Delegation . It seems that this would work on AEM 6.5LTS since there this package is exported by the new version of org.apache.felix.framework (7.x) while the 6.0.2 version on AEM 6.5.2x does not export this.

. Which Java version are you using? Have you recently upgraded to a newer version. There have been some reports that the boot classloader of Felix does not deal well with Java upgrades from Java 8 to something leveraging the module system (Java 9+), see also https://experienceleaguecommunities.adobe.com/adobe-experience-manager-sites-8/cannot-be-resolved-but-is-not-required-and-overwritten-by-boot-delegation-while-migrating-from-6-2-to-6-5-25208.

We are using java 11, I indeed also saw these kinds of reports but of course the proposed fix isn't something we can do ourselves, that's why we reverted back to the latests 3.x version

Also 3.x relies on java.sql in the same way as 4.1.0. I am pretty sure this issue is not related to some AEM 6.5 SP but just to an upgrade from Java 8 to Java 9+.

We recently went to java 11 but everything was still working, it was only when trying to move to 4.x (a month later) that it failed to resolve

As said before, even ACTool 3.x needed java.sql. Nothing changed in that regard.

Yeah, however the imported Packages are different.
The 4.2.1 seems to import java.* packages
While 3.6.2 does not:

That changed implicitly by requiring Java 11: https://bnd.bndtools.org/instructions/noimportjava.html, so it regressed with #828 introduced in 4.0.0.

Sorry for the delay. I can confirm that AEM 6.5.x (Felix 6.0.2) does not export java.sql by mistake:

Seems to be a bug in that old Felix version (also reported in https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FELIX-5843 and only fixed in Felix 7.x).
Will try to workaround that by removing the import-packages for java.* packages.
