i doubt that it would be a good idea to overload the laser with yet another action. furthermore it somewhat conflicts with that the laser is supposed to pass through already frozen- or teammate tees, depending on sv_laser_skip_*

shooting unfrozen enemy

which of those situations should have the pull effect in your opinion? and should the laser still pass, or be consumed by such a pull?

yeah i somewhat agree. perhaps a compromise would be to add the shotgun as a pull weapon, instead of overloading the laser.
(on the other hand, i wouldn't want to actually place that weapon on standard maps).
for the experimental server it might be something worth testing.

It's an interesting idea.

I think laser-boosting (lasers that boost like grenades) would really add to the game, giving you greater mobility. Some iCTF and catching have implemented it. (sv_laser_boost or something)

Also adding the other weapons, so that they all freeze would be fun. Maybe make pistols/shotgun freeze less, and grenades also wake up your team mates. xD

Adding more weapons is a crap idea. We'll get opendmfng with 5 weapons then. I like fng cuz 1 scrolling of mouse gives me the weapon i want. Adding new weapon will make me slower.

Well, if it's impossible to overload weapon for you, fisted, you can disapprove that's issue. But i always thought that it's more than possible. You don't need overload wepon, you need add some conditions to laser's projectile.

I respect your feelings Shahan, I just want to say that adding more features as optional and not forced, makes everyone happy! And it increases the scope of the mod. It's not an "either or" dilemma at all, since basic fng can still run very happily while people looking for more variations and creativity are happy as well.

Already the laser's "projectile" can be influenced with the basic tuning command, which my server (the most popular in the USA and often has more than the Reference server) implements.

Adding things optional can ofc make people sad to, because they don't find a server on which they can play anymore for example.

Dizern, you are right, but i should agree with heinrich cuz actually i hate when i'm entering the server of the mod i like and find there annoying tunes.

For example: ddrace with rainbow for all players (faced on 0.5.2) or openfng with gravity 0.1 (saw it recently)

This was definitely my server, Epic FNG. However, on my server everything is votable, so if you simply wait for when people want it your way, you can play then.

I hate DDrace altogether, but I don't advocate eliminating it. A lot of people have a lot of fun with 0.1 gravity in FNG, should they be denied just because others don't like it? They could make the same argument as you (e.g., all servers are bland without options).

"Because I don't like something it shouldn't exist" is not a great argument, imo, if enough other people do. After all, even if there is no FNG server with normal options, as you suggest, there's nothing to stop you or someone else from making one!

if you want to add any features - fork fisted's repository and add what you want.
original mod can suffer from any features (and it not depend on if it optional or not), new bugs and so on

I disagree original mod will "suffer" from additional features. There's no good argument for that. The only argument someone could even come with, lol, was that extra-featured servers will "take over" and no original servers will be found (how sad!). Which doesn't even make sense, since anyone can make a server, if you want your server you can sit in it all day long.

Optional additions are logical. They please both halves of the fans, people that enjoy them and people that don't can ignore them. This misplaced and irrational fear that any additional features will somehow ruin the integrity of the game, or have some disastrous effect, is just that, misplaced and irrational. But I'm not a programmer, so, as we have seen in the past, they make their own decisions for better or worse (or just busy).

Think over it again. Do you want to join a vanilla (DM,, TDM, CTF) server and have crazy weapons? This can indeed destroy a mod.

You don't come up with arguments, you just say 'it is misplaced an irrational that someone fears that additional features will destroy the mod'.

'If you want your server, you can sit in it all day long' << playing alone doesn't really make fun.
