Designing With Spatial Complexity

Urban Design · Territorial Spatial Planning · Systems Thinking

Portfolio PDF Chinese README Copyright notice

Cities are not just built forms. They are systems of movement, policy, ecology, memory, infrastructure, and human behavior.

This portfolio collects my undergraduate work in urban design, territorial spatial planning, rural development, community scenarios, and spatial research. More importantly, it documents the foundation of how I think: through systems, constraints, relationships, and visual structure.

How do we turn complexity into structures people can understand, evaluate, and act on?

Highlights

Urban Design Territorial Planning
Renewal design for Xi'an Sansue Street historical-cultural district, centered on spatial flow, urban memory, public life, and historical renewal. County-level territorial spatial planning for Pingli County, including dual evaluation, ecological protection, agricultural suitability, and urban construction suitability.

Rural Community Spatial Systems Research
Rural community construction through ecological, cultural, production, and living systems. Low-carbon construction, smart operation, shared parking, and integrated implementation mechanisms.

What This Portfolio Shows

  • Reading cities and regions as layered systems rather than isolated sites
  • Translating messy spatial problems into maps, diagrams, scenarios, and design logic
  • Working across scales: block, district, countryside, county, region, and infrastructure
  • Using dual evaluation and suitability analysis to support territorial spatial planning
  • Balancing cultural memory, ecological constraints, land-use structure, and implementation feasibility
  • Communicating complex planning decisions through visual narratives

Why It Matters

Although these works were created during my undergraduate training, they shaped a long-term interest that continues into my current work: designing systems that make complexity legible.

From cities to digital products, I care about the same underlying problem: how structure, interface, and representation can help people make better decisions in complicated environments.
