Title: Scanopy v0.17.0 — Enhanced SNMP, Smart Topology Snapshots, Expanded Virtualization Discovery

Scanopy v0.17.0 is here, and this release brings major improvements for SNMP-powered discovery, smarter topology management, deeper virtualization insights, and a more seamless billing workflow. Thanks to everyone in the community for your feedback and contributions!

New Features

  • SNMPv1 & SNMPv3 AuthPriv support: Broader device compatibility for network discovery (#557).

  • Smarter topology snapshots: Snapshots now retain tags, include a dedicated read-only mode, and offer granular sharing controls. Easily capture network states, revisit specific configurations, or share topologies securely (#565, #588).

Snapshot list and read-only snapshot topology view

  • Expanded service discovery: 11 new recognized services, now including virtualization platforms like vCenter, ESXi, Podman, plus integration middleware (e.g. Mendelson AS2) (#599).

  • NDAA Section 889 supply-chain compliance: Identify flagged devices on your network (#591).

Improvements

  • Alphabetical sorting for all topology options (services, layouts, filters) for faster navigation (#596).
  • Host deduplication for multiple IPs with the same MAC address leads to a cleaner, more accurate host inventory (#600).
  • Visual polish: more consistent tag displays, improved info banners, less UI flicker (#589).
  • Updated plan names (“Community Edition”, “Commercial Edition”) and more accurate billing email details (#602).
  • Custom SMTP port configuration for notification emails (#591).
  • Added UTM params to CTAs for improved user journey tracking (#595).

Bug Fixes

  • Raster export fixes: no more blurry exports or drop-shadow issues (#588).
  • Topology service bindings and edges are now preserved when switching tags (#588).
  • Improved demo snapshot handling, better snapshot deletion feedback, and correct stale selection behaviors.
  • SNMPv3 credential form improvements, including accurate defaults and VM isolation feedback.
  • Snapshot read-only browsing now applies filters correctly.

See the full changelog for all details. As always, Docker tags are updated on GHCR/Docker Hub. Feedback, bug reports, and PRs welcome!

Title: Map your network instantly and visually — I built Scanopy to make homelab discovery painless

I built Scanopy, a self-hosted tool that automatically discovers, inventories, and maps your entire network into a live, interactive topology — all from Docker containers you control.

Why did I create this? Because:

  • Mapping big, changing networks is a pain. Manual diagrams get stale and monitoring tools rarely show physical layout. Scanopy combines ping, ARP, SNMP, and LLDP/CDP to detect devices, their roles, and even physical or virtual connections.
  • Device and service discovery is too limited. Scanopy spots over 200 services and platforms — including virtualization like ESXi/vCenter/Podman, databases, web servers, and more — making it simple to understand what’s running where.
  • Revisiting your network’s past state is impossible (until now). Scanopy lets you snapshot your topology (tags and all), save it read-only, and share securely. Ideal for troubleshooting or documenting changes.

Runs as Docker containers (one server and scanning daemons), free for small/home networks, and is open source.

Subject: Smarter discovery, snapshots, and sharing in Scanopy

We're excited to share some major improvements that make Scanopy more powerful and easier to use, helping you streamline discovery, documentation, and collaboration in your network.

  • Unlock broader device support: Expanded SNMPv1 and SNMPv3 AuthPriv credential management means you can discover more devices, even on complex or regulated networks.
  • Effortless network state tracking: Topology snapshots now retain tags, include a secure read-only view, and offer improved sharing controls—making it simple to capture, review, and share exactly how your network looked at any point in time.
  • Deeper virtualization visibility: Discovery now recognizes and categorizes more virtualization platforms (including vCenter, ESXi, Podman) and integration services, giving you clearer maps of hybrid environments.
  • Regulatory-aware mapping: NDAA Section 889 supply-chain compliance checks highlight devices that may need attention for government or enterprise requirements.
  • Easier billing workflows: Updated plan names and more accurate pricing info help keep billing straightforward and transparent.

Scanopy is now faster to search, more accurate when grouping devices, and smoother to use day to day—making network management and collaboration simpler for everyone in your team.
